Annotation

In this paper briefly describes the history of the psychoanalytic understanding of physicality based on the literature correlation between current data about sleep as a psychophysiological process and the psychoanalytic theory of the mind. It is concluded that REM sleep is associated with features of containment of affect and the capacity to symbolize, the phase of slow sleep - with the ability to experience separation.
